Old Pioneer Headphones

I found a pair of vintage Pioneer SE-30A headphone in a thrift store. It was made in Japan around late 60s or early 70s. It's not the best-sounding headphone. My Sony MDR-V700DJ certainly blows it far far away. However, this thing looks absolutely gorgeous. It's so huge with this shiny metal support. Even the cable is thick and shiny with the big 1/4 inch jack. They simply won't make things like this nowadays. Today is all about reducing the size. My  Pioneer SE-30A My  Sony MDR-V700DJ

A Japanese Doll

I just got my hands on a Japanese doll Hanako chan (花子ちゃん). Compared to the dolls I already have, this one is just superior.  Every detail is so well made, particularly the clothing. It comes with a glass case and a neat rotatable wooden base. Besides the quality of the doll itself, there are two points that draw my attention: Based on the signature on the wooden plate, the doll is possibly made by a famous doll artist: Shiko Sekihara (關原紫光). Although only Shiko 紫光 is clearly shown here (and the red seal with potentially the full name is barely recognizable), upon quick googling, 關原紫光 is the only Japanese doll artist (人形師) with the same given name that I could find, so that might be it (or just my wishful thinking). That said, I doubt many Japanese artists would use their given names as the signatures of their serious works. And her recent works have a very different style than this one (her style might have changed though). The other point lies on the cultural aspect of the doll. ...

Touch Detective Original Soundtrack CD

I imported the Touch Detective Original Soundtrack from Japan. As the name suggests, it contains the soundtrack of the game of the same name. The spine of the CD is titled OSAWARI TANTEI OZAWA RINA (おさわり探偵 小沢里奈) ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK REPRINT, which is basically the original Japanese name of the game. The disc contains 24 tracks. The first three tracks are remixes of three selected tracks. The first one is vocal with both vocals & lyrics by Ozawa, Rina (大沢里奈), almost the same name as the main protagonist. That might not be her real name though. Maybe she goes by this name just for the gig. The last track is a bonus track where you can hear her singing about mushroom soup while working by the sink, supposedly preparing mushroom soup. The joke is that the character has an animal-like mushroom as a pet. The rest of the tracks are the same as the BGM in the game except for the higher sound quality. 01 La La La Shopping District ~ Rina's Feelings 4:08 02 Impressions of the Valle...

Getting Obsessed with PDA

I recently got hold of the handspring visor deluxe. It is like the smartphone of the 90s, being able to install apps and stuff. One interesting thing about this particular PDA is that it has a slot for installing hardware modules. I have the eyemodule2 (camera), the backup module, the GPS module, etc. The eyemodule is particularly interesting. The pictures it takes are weird from today's standard. I will post some of the photos at the end of this blog.  2021: The eyemodule can also take short videos. Here is a video compilation I made in 2021 (the videos were taken in 2017).: The backup module (Some photos here are from the future... 2021) The eyemodule2 The GPS module Magellan GPS Companion The CF Card Adapter Here are some photos taken with the eyemodule2. I manage to make it take screenshot with ScreenShot Hack for Palm OS (the original developer, linkesoft, is kind enough to give me the license key).

Doll!

Found a porcelain doll (Emerald Doll Collection 2000 Edition) with a box and stand in a thrift store. I bought it for 6 dollars. Her name is Judy. According to the label on the box, it has been in Coach House Gifts for some time, which is really far away (The nearest Coach House Gifts is at the edge of Utah). I am guessing that she may be the ugliest among her peers and as a result, she was left alone in the store and now ended up in a thrift store. It's also possible that she was a display item. Or her former master, who happens to be a collector, gave her up to a thrift store(only collector would keep the original box). Anyway, the doll is 16 years old now. Who knows what happens to her in the past years.
